First the BRABUS E V12 had to
pass a hard test at the worldwide renowned German car magazine
"auto motor und sport" where we are allowed to quote
some passages from: "The acceleration performance of the
BRABUS is less limited by the power than by the traction
available. The power of 582 hp would be easily sufficient to make
it storm faster than in 4.9 seconds to 100 km/h. But it is simply
impossible to bring the full performance on the road at a
race-like take-off... ...Over 100 km/h, when the wheels have got
full grip, the V12 monster is storming on in a way which normally
can be tracked by conventional and by no means performance weak
cars only in the lower speed area. After 16,2 seconds, the BRABUS
is shooting along with 200 km/h, so from 100 to 200 km/h there
only pass some 11,3 seconds... ...The rare event of a motorway
which is clear for many kilometers, the E V12 can get up to 330
km/h fast. Then the car is limited out of consideration for the
tires which are of course extremely strained by such a fast
two-ton car... ...Even the fuel consumption keeps within more
civilian bounds than suspected: The average fuel consumption of
17,1 litres / 100 kilometers displays, that the BRABUS is mostly
driven in part-load operation due to its giant power..."
BRABUS constructed a high performance car based on the Mercedes
E-Class of the W 210 range which doesn't only set new standards
for the performances of a four-door sedan which can be driven in
daily traffic. For this, the most powerful and torqueful engine
out of German production, the BRABUS 7.3 S based on the Mercedes
V12, is implanted into the E-Class bodywork. With this car, the
worldwide renowned tuner BRABUS again demonstrates its top
position in the construction of extraordinary cars.
The heart of the BRABUS E V12 is the Mercedes-Benz V12 engine,
whose displacement is enlarged to 7255 cc with a new long-stroke
crankshaft and special pistons. Gas-flow in the cylinder-heads is
optimised with reworked ports, valves and valve seats, and a pair
of high-lift camshafts, tuned for power, torque and low emissions
are installed. The final components in this power equation are a
high efficiency sports exhaust with free-flowing metal catalysts
and a modified ECU.
The BRABUS 7.3 S specification was originally intended to enrich
the already beefy torque curve of the BRABUS 7.3 litre engine
which it has succeded in doing, as the 772 Nm (570 lb ft) at 4000
rpm proves. The additional 52 bhp generated in the process,
taking peak power to 582 bhp at 6000 rpm was an incidental but
welcome additional benefit.
All this power and torque are fed through a beefed up five-speed
automatic transmission. In addition the BRABUS E V12 is equipped
with ASR anti-slip-regulation and the ESP driving stability
system. To deploy this level of power safely, the accompanying
chassis has to be something equally special.
BRABUS have thus developed a sport chassis for the E V12 that
combines sharp handling and outstanding roadholding with the sort
of ride comfort you would expect from a supreme trans-continental
express. Rounding off this package of outstanding talent is a
braking system worthy of a Group C racing car. Large
cross-drilled ventilated discs with four-pot calipers are used
alround which give the E V12 the stopping power to match its
accelerative ability.
